The Greater Manchester Club is a union of alumni of the universities in the Greater Manchester area, (including the predecessor institutions of UMIST, The University of Manchester, Manchester Business School, Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester City College and the University of Salford). The club supports each alumni association of the universities. The club consists of a variety of members including visiting researchers, exchange students to the universities as well as business people related to Manchester. The purpose of the club is to strengthen the relationship between Japan and Manchester. The Club supports students studying in Manchester and planning to study there. It also supports the universities in the Greater Manchester area including 2015 project that aims to make the University of Manchester one of the world's leading universities by 2015. The club has a close contact with the Centre for Japanese Studies in the University of Manchester. We, of course, promote friendship among the club members, having an annual meeting, Bonenkai [end of year party] and/or new year party. All the graduates of universities in the Greater Manchester area, and all the people who agree with the purpose of the club are welcome to the Greater Manchester Club, Japan.
